Originally, the red sauce recipe was created by Joe Zsadanyi. In the 1940s, right after World War II. During the war, he served in the Army as a trainer and sharp shot. He was a first-generation American, like many others who served in that war. He created the dish when he went back to his hometown of Hialeah after the war. They only share the recipe within the family. He didn't share it with anyone but his sister, Frieda Gaylord.
